Hello! Welcome to Miss Molly's web page.

Miss Molly by Golly is a nine year old, AKC registered, black Standard Poodle who assists me in my psychotherapy practice. Molly has been trained as a therapy dog since she was 4 months old. She is playful, gentle, cuddly, exceedingly intelligent and beautiful. Other attributes: stoicism, patience, and tolerance are a winning combination for a wonderful helper and companion.

Molly likes to greet people who come into the office.  Playful or snuggly, she demonstrates a keen assessment of the situation.   Someone who needs comfort may find Molly sitting on his feet.

Molly has two wonderful friends, Miniature Schnauzer, Kody, who is now in semi-retirement (see Mary Kuhns), and the newest dog, Carly, a Standard Schnauzer. Their owner is Dr. Mary Kuhns who shares the office. Molly is delighted when Carly is there. Sometimes she sits patiently in front of Mary’s door to wait for Mary to finish working so Carly can come out and play. The dogs have fun together. They bring laughter and joy to therapists and clients alike. It provides a welcome respite from painful issues people bring with them. Somehow feelings lighten and troubles seem a little more manageable.

Molly has graduated from obedience training at The Pet School in Louisville, Kentucky. Molly provides a wealth of material for therapeutic metaphors I use in therapy.  On the hottest day last summer we had a memorable incident.

Molly loves to ride in the car and usually goes with me.  On a miserably hot, humid day, Molly was left at home in air-conditioned comfort, while I ran errands.  When I arrived later that day I found a very angry dog. She would not "speak" to me.  In spite of the heat, she refused to come in the house.  This went on for several hours.  Finally around 11 o'clock in the evening, I opened the car door, she jumped in and I took her for a ride.  She was happy and back to her old self. Her owner was happy about that!

How was she to know the rules had changed?

Another therapist told Molly's story to a lonely child.  The little girl said, "I'm glad Molly got to go for a ride."  Then the child poured out her heart to the therapist.
